The Sustainable Refurbishment module involved the renovation of the Bournemouth Magistrates' Court into a primary school, as outlined in the design brief. The project required the refurbishment of the Lower and Upper Ground Floors of the court building. For the submission, a demolition plan, proposed layout plan, fire strategy plan, and CDM (Construction Design and Management) plan were all required.
This project presented significant challenges due to the existing concrete structure, particularly the columns, which could not be altered or repositioned. Despite these constraints, the layout was carefully planned to optimize space efficiency and ensure smooth circulation throughout the school. The design strategically separated areas for different age groups, creating distinct zones to cater to their specific needs while maintaining an efficient flow across the space.
